Without Borders
"We are an international network of ecological builders
who form partnerships with communities and organizations around
the world to create affordable housing from local materials and
to work together for a sustainable future. We believe the solution
to homelessness is not merely housing, but a local population
trained to provide housing for themselves."
About
Colombia's Bamboo - Gale Beth Goldberg AIA
Guadua ( Bambusa guadua angustifolia ) is the most visibly dominant
bamboo in the Caldas region of Colombia. It has been used in architecture
since the 1920's, and has been reinvigorated by the design talents
of architect Simón Vélez and artisan Marcelo Villegas.
Ms. Goldberg researched and documented this bamboo architecture
in Colombia during November, 1998, with the support of the Graham
Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts.

"The quality and values inherent to the traditional
and human response to the environment might be preserved without
a loss of the advances of science.
Science can be applied to various aspects of our work, while it
is at the same time subordinated to philosophy, faith and spirituality."

We are the Timber Framers Guild of North America, a nonprofit
organization dedicated to promoting the benefits, beauty, and
practicality of a timber frame structure. We are builders, architects,
